The Project
THE LAST STATION
STORY
When the pandemic hit in 2020, I had a small business I was running called Kingdom of Pavement that put on local open mic nights and secret shows. I hosted a community of artists, musicians, writers, and performers who took the stage during our events, and we were in the middle of expanding our events slate. But when in-person events were impossible, I decided to engage our community through the production of scripted podcasts — something I had no experience in. Thus began my journey to reimagine Kingdom of Pavement as a scripted podcast production company. And our first production was a show I wrote and produced: The Last Station.
DELIVERABLES
PODCAST SCRIPTS
At the beginning of COVID, I created the characters and the story around The Last Station, and sketched out the journey of the season. I also tapped writers from my network who contributed to the scripts as well. I ran the show with my partner Kyle Cords, and the two of us rewrote and revised all scripts that came in, just like a traditional Hollywood writers’ room. The show follows a radio station DJ trapped in her booth at the end of the world, and a cowboy in the Arizona desert fighting strange enemies — including the demons within him. This sci-fi series is also an homage to one of my favorite audio dramas, War of the Worlds.
PODCAST PRODUCING
Learning how to produce an audio drama without any experience was totally new to me, and so I made quite a few mistakes. Despite the steep learning curve, I’m proud of how this series came out, and it paved the way for our future productions to hit the high bar they did.
IMPACT
The Last Station has stayed on the Apple Podcast charts for three years at this point, and I still receive fan mail from our listeners. This beloved sci-fi show is one of my favorite works I’ve completed and produced, and I’m proud of our team and how this story turned out. Our last few episodes are coming out this year!
