Month Two Update: Growing My Substack Newsletter to $8,000/Month

A lot of surprising things happened in Month 2 of my journey to grow my Substack publication/newsletter ✍️ From the Desk of Amy Suto ✍️ to $8,000 per month in revenue.

While I’m still a ways away from this goal, I’m thrilled with where I’m at so far. I’m still averaging around a 49% open rate which is super high for newsletters, and I’m slowly gaining new paid subscribers.

First, by staying consistent on my content (I’m in the top 22% of publishers and on a 10-week streak!) I saw an increase in paid subscribers — even though my total subscriber increase was low. I think this is because I’ve proven my content is valuable to my current subscribers, which helped people see a good reason to become paid subscribers.

I also saw a huge increase in subscribers who found my Substack from my link in bio (which I put across all my social media!) and from the Substack network itself.

This was surprising because in the past most of my subscribers found me directly from my website.

It just goes to show that Substack helps a ton with discoverability, and if you stay consistent it seems like their algorithm will push you out to more subscribers who will dig your writing!

In my YouTube video below, I break down more details on how I keep my open rate so high, what I do to prove value to my subscribers on Substack, and how to customize different visual aspects of your publication.
