15 Twitter Accounts Screenwriters Should Follow

May 27, 2012 by Amy Suto

During my quest to unearth the best resources for screenwriters, I turned to the lovely world of Twitter. From industry news and statistics to anonymous members of Hollywood offering cash prizes to those who uncover their true identity, Twitter is packed with opportunities to learn and become inspired.

Here are fifteen Twitter accounts you should go follow right now:

  1. John August (@johnaugust). One of my favorite screenwriting bloggers, you can find a wealth of witticisms sprinkled throughout his twitter feed. Go forth and follow him!
  2. Script Chat (@ScriptChat). The best resource for live twitter interviews, where filmmakers and other industry insiders will

    answer your burning questions.

  3. Damon Lindelof. The Lost creator’s sharp wit comes through loud and clear on his Twitter feed! Also: updates on his new movie, Prometheus. Here’s a sample: “I’m not gonna say the R rating was inevitable, but the PG-13 cut of PROMETHEUS was eleven minutes long.”
  4. Lorene Scafaria (@LoreneScafaria). The hilarious screenwriter of “Seeking a Friend at the End of the World” and “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist.” One of my favorite writers– and her Twitter feed reflects her talent with words!
  5. The Bitter Script Reader (@BittrScrptReadr). He’s as hilarious as he is bitter. He runs a great blog and has plenty of advice to offer as a Hollywood scriptreader.
  6. Robert Dillon (@rdlln). All the screenwriting news you’ll ever need! Rob also runs Feedback Friday.
  7. Bitch Pack (@BiatchPack). Pro-female representation in movies! This user runs “The Bitch List,” which is going to document spec scripts that pass the Bechdel Test and feature well developed, three dimensional female heroines. They tweet news about women in the film industry.
  8. Anonymous Exec (@anonymousexc). A painfully honest, sometimes bitter, but often valuable glimpse into the life of a Hollywood executive.
  9. Bad Script Advice (@badscrptadvice). Hilarious advice that should be taken in reverse.
  10. Writer’s Relief (@WritersRelief). Tons of great enriching quotes, articles, and other great resources for writers.
  11. Mystery Executive (@MysteryExec). More acerbic than the anonymous exec, but his tweets are just as valuable. He promises $1000 to whomever figures out who they are.
  12. Great Minds Quotes (@GreatestQuotes). For your daily dose of inspirational quotes!
  13. Benedek Meyers (@ScreenwritingMC). All of the recent spec sales are posted by this user– and nothing else, so it won’t clog up your feed. Scott Meyers (#14 on this list) also posts the exact same spec sales, but he also Tweets around twenty times per day.
  14. Scott Meyers (@GoIntoTheStory). Runs a great blog over at the Black List called “Go Into the Story”, and tweets bucket loads of news, links, and other articles. LOTS of tweets but very informative.
  15. Box Office Mojo (@BoxOfficeMojo). Get your fresh box office stats here!

P.S. I really had to work to be unbiased here. I have so many lovely Twitter followers who don’t tweet about screenwriting but who are hilarious anyways! They didn’t make the list but if you check out my Twitter feed you can find some of them.
